Pengerang Co-generation Plant (PCP)

Pengerang Co-generation Plant, better known as PCP is a project under the development of Pengerang Power Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of PETRONAS Power Sdn Bhd.

The PCP is one of the six associated facilities to be developed within PETRONAS' PIC. Once completed, PCP will be able to power the entire PIC by generating 1,220 megawatts (MW tph) of electricity as well as provide reliable and continuous supply of steam up to 1,480 tonnes per hour for plants within the complex.

The Pengerang Plant which will be built by a consortium comprising of Siemens AG, Siemens Malaysia and MMC Engineering Sdn. Bhd, will have four co-generation units, with the first unit expected to be commercially operational by mid-2017. The contract, awarded on 12 May 2014, requires the consortium to undertake the design, engineering, procurement, supply, manufacturing, construction, installation, development, testing and commissioning works and warranty for the project.

This state-of the art COGEN plant will be utilizing Siemens latest H-class technology together with unique dual steam turbine configuration which will ensure high efficiency and be among the biggest cogeneration plant in the region.

The project is expected to employ about 2000 workers during peak construction. Permanent employment for competent local workforce when the plant is operational is one of the direct benefits of the project, along with other economic spin-off opportunities for the local communities.
